Tough Conversations

Even the best leaders with years of experience realize that there are periods when one problem leads to another problem, and which inevitably leads to another problem.

In times like these, you need a strong team which is engaged and empowered.

And one key component for high-performing teams comes down to communication, specifically caring enough to have difficult conversations.

Unfortunately, we might…

• put off those tough conversations.

• be afraid of changing the relationship.

• fear harming the team dynamic.

So the bad behavior continues. The frustration grows. The problem becomes greater as it impacts others in the team.

Even worse, all of the pent up emotion erupts when you finally sit down for the conversation. Although you may have planned and rehearsed beforehand, any calm behavior quickly disappears. The person feels and responds as if attacked.

Any chance to resolve the issue needs more than a sprinkle of pixie dust and magic. 🧚‍♀

But have you considered that a tough conversation actually shows how much you care? Have you thought that you might actually strengthen the relationship?

So don’t shy away. Instead, be willing to speak with rather than talk at the person.
